Long Winters

I have been falling off on my entries to my blog, and the subsequent updates to my site that they would require. It is always nice to have a sort of reenergizing time in the winter to take a short break from riding, refocus my intentions and sort things out in my mind. This winter seemed to have caught me a little off guard however, and is stretching to a length that is now making me itch to get back in the saddle.

Since I began a new job in October that lets me use my education in Massage Therapy, I took my hiatus early in preparation for some cold weather in December, but it never seemed to arrive, and just as I was readying myself to get back to some work with the horses because of the enjoyable weather, it then turned bad. :)

I broke down and bought a sled to go “sleighing” with Scout while we still have the snow. I also climbed aboard Scout last night when I was feeding, just to sit on the back of a horse again. It felt good, and liberating, to just sit without a saddle or any restraint on him and move about. Horses are so healing to the soul.

In the meantime of waiting out the last of the cold weather, I have been hard at work writing a book. At this point I’m just putting the ideas and thoughts down as they come to me and I’ll edit them later. It is my goal to have a manuscript finished by May 1st, and devote the remainder of the year to getting it published and playing with my own horses. I had the wonderful chance to see the Royal Lippizaner Stallion Tour this evening with my student Lisa, and my parents Tom & Cheryl. We got wonderfully close seats by pure chance and it was a pleasure to see the show again. It has been nearly 10 years since I last saw them in Madison.
