Hi! I am Cheryl Frei, and I work with Eques­tri­ans here at Aware­ness In Riding as a Life Coach. I have had hors­es most of my life. As a child I was fortu­nate enough to have two in my back­yard who allowed me to jump on and hang on as they ran through the woods, scar­ing the living daylights out of me! It was a time when we had no halters, saddles or bridles... but even if we did we wouldn't have known how to use them. I consid­ered myself a great rider, for the simple fact that no matter what my horse did I managed to keep myself aboard and stuck to their back like glue!

In my later teens I was intro­duced to riding in saddles and using reins to help steer and control the horse. As my learn­ing contin­ued I found vari­ous disci­plines such as West­ern, English, Dres­sage, Natu­ral Horse­man­ship, etc... and yet the more tech­niques I discov­ered and tools were at my dispos­al, the more I felt inse­cure, unsafe and out of control with my horse. I remem­ber one day remov­ing my stir­rups when riding and all of a sudden my horse began to pick up his feet and instead of 'thump, thump, thump' (my legs again­st his sides), he swayed and rolled forward with ease.

I had built the belief that stir­rups (and all of the other sorts of equip­ment I was now using) was neces­sary, but by remov­ing those stir­rups that one day I began to see that the complex systems and meth­ods I had been learn­ing and prac­tic­ing may have been the very things getting in the way of me commu­ni­cat­ing correct­ly with my horse!

As an eques­tri­an you may have already seen situ­a­tions where the same old approach­es to resolv­ing issues could actu­al­ly be a contribut­ing factor in the prob­lems you are attempt­ing to over­come! And that strug­gling through the frus­tra­tions is no longer work­ing for you.

This is where my job as a Life Coach comes into play and exact­ly why I am so excit­ed to do the work that I do! Life Coach­ing tech­niques approach 'prob­lems' from a complete­ly differ­ent angle to resolve riding and train­ing issues, and eques­tri­ans are find­ing time and again success that elevates them to an entire­ly new realm of work­ing with their horse. This upgrade in think­ing creates a new game, so to speak, for eques­tri­ans to renew and reju­ve­nate their love and passion and why they got into work­ing with hors­es in the first place!

I have been Coach­ing for six years now, and I am excit­ed each and every day as I work with eques­tri­ans just like you who allow me to jour­ney with them through the break­throughs from frus­tra­tion to abso­lute and pure free­dom to accom­plish anything their heart desires! That is what gets me out of bed in the morn­ing and keeps me running through the whole day laugh­ing, giggling and full of joy.
